Dinastía II de Egipto

La segunda dinastía de faraones egipcios transcurre de c. 2850 a. C. a 2700 a. C., y forma parte, con la dinastía I, del periodo Arcaico.

No se aprecia una clara ruptura entre la primera y la segunda dinastías. Algunos indicios hacen suponer la pacificación lograda entre las Dos Tierras, el Alto Egipto y el Bajo Egipto, como refleja el nombre del primero de sus reyes, Hetepsejemuy "los dos poderes están en paz".

Esta dinastía marca un reforzamiento del poder absoluto basado en una organización centralizada y la utilización más intensiva de la escritura (aumento de burocracia). Menfis se convierte en la capital del reino del norte con Uneg y Sened.

Hay indicios de una crisis de rivalidad entre Tinis y Menfis, reflejada en la estela de Peribsen, donde el "Nombre de Seth" sustituye al "Nombre de Horus." Los reyes de la segunda dinastía deben luchar contra los nubios y lograr la pacificación del norte del país, que solo la conseguirá Jasejemuy, al final de la dinastía.

La segunda dinastía cierra el período Arcaico o Tinita, (nombre dado del lugar de donde procedían los primeros faraones de las dos primeras dinastías, Tinis, This en egipcio, cerca de Abidos)

Sólo se conocen con seguridad los nombres y el orden de los cuatro primeros soberanos y del último, pero no se ha podido identificar casi ninguna tumba real.

The Second Dynasty of ancient Egypt is often combined with the First dynasty under the group title, Early Dynastic Period of Egypt. The capital at that time was Thinis.

The names of the actual rulers of the Second Dynasty are in dispute. For the first five kings, the sources are fairly close in agreement. Known rulers, in the History of Egypt, for the Second Dynasty are as follows:

However, the identity of the next two or three rulers is unclear: we may have both the Horus-name or Nebty (meaning two ladies) -name and their birth names for these rulers; they may be entirely different individuals; or they may be legendary names. On the left are the rulers most Egyptologists place here; on the right are the names that ultimately come from Manetho's Aegyptica:

Although Manetho states the capital was at Thinis, the same as during the First Dynasty, at least the first three kings were buried at Saqqara, suggesting the center of power had moved to Memphis. Beyond this, little can be said about the events during this period; the annual records on the Palermo stone only survive for the end of the reign of Raneb and for parts of Nynetjer's. One important event possibly happened during the reign of Khasekhemwy: many Egyptologists read his name ("the Two Powers are Crowned") as commemorating the union of Upper and Lower Egypts.
